Time Out says

Well it’s definitely not secret and it’s not really a cinema and it seems possible the name might be tweaked before it actually opens in 2027, but the venue that we’re calling Secret Cinema is the new permanent home of the company of the same name. Back in the day they used to stage eleborate screenings of classic films in obscure found spaces in London; but as the shows got bigger and bigger the secrecy fell by the wayside anyway and a regular permanent home big enough to house whatever they want to put on makes more sense rather than have to scrabble for a new massive venue each time. Exactly what is involved in the Secret Cinema venue is TBC: it’s not, for instance, clear if there will be anything to do there when there’s not a show on, but for now we’d assume the answer is ‘no’ and it’ll be the Secret Cinema equivalent of Punchdrunk’s Carriageworks.

Secret Cinema presents Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean: The Immersive Adventure

A Pirates of the Caribbean editition of Secret Cinema was mooted some years ago but never got off the ground due to the ravages of the pandemic. But now the immersive company’s take on the Johnny Depp-starring first film Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl finally arrives in 2027, where it will have the distinction of being the opening show at the company’s new Greenwich Peninsula permanent home. At the stage we all kind of know what ‘a Secret Cinema take’ means: a screening of the movie enhanced by spectacular immersive elements. PRECISELY what’s involved is more up for grabs: we don’t know what the immersive elements are yet, and we don’t know how the screening will work – the company’s most recent show, Grease: The Immersive Movie Musical integrated the film into the performance, which was a good innovation as it stopped the actual cinema bit feeling like an afterthought after several hours of immersive theatre. In any case, expect the spectacular.
