Peckham Palais

Ever raved in a department store? Now's your chance. Sadly, it's an ex-department store, so you don't get to run around the shops causing havoc, a la 'Dawn of the Dead', but the Peckham Palais, overflowing with Peckham's characteristically raw charm, is still a lot of fun. Once you get inside it's a big venue – holding 1,500 people – but you'll appreciate the space when a cast of house, techno, dubstep and bass behemoths are turning it into a dark, heaving sweatbox. Nights here are usually occasional and off-the-cuff, with little advance info available, but keep an eye out and you'll find some underground gems. There are also semi-regular old-skool nights that salute classic garage, R&B and '90s vibes.
