No-one quite knew what would happen to 89 Great Eastern Street when the popular East Village club closed suddenly in 2014. Thankfully, in March 2014 Trapeze opened, ensuring that one of Shoreditch's best-loved clubbing spaces didn't go to waste. Trapeze is a two-floor venue with a bar and kitchen up top (themed, as you might guess, around a colourful, twisted circus) and an intimate basement club down below. The house, disco and funk feel of East Village's programming remains a fixture at Trapeze thanks to EV's Stuart Patterson remaining in control of the line-ups, and you can expect to see all manner of top DJs spinning tunes to a crowd that know – and love – their house music. Terry Farley, Marshall Jefferson and Joey Negro have all played sets there, so expect acts of a similarly high calibre to continue setting the scene. Hip hop fans can also get their fix from occasional nights run by prime London beat crew The Doctor's Orders.

Trapeze is a circus themed bar in Old Street / Shoreditch area with cosy booths surrounded by hanging trapeze bars and framed clown costumes. They also have a basement club on a Friday and Saturday night. The music when I visited on a Friday was rnb and hip hop and they have house music nights on Saturdays, as well as a bit of funk, soul and motown.

The main attraction to Trapeze is the creative cocktail list (oh, and the fact that you get popcorn with your drinks!) From the “signatures” we had the “Lemon Sherbert” – lemongrass infused vodka, melon liqueur and lemongrass syrup (and served with sweets!) “Snake charmer” – Brandy, amaretto, cherry puree, lemon & sugar, “Would I lychee to you? – Rum, lychee, raspberry and basil with  cranberry and a soda top and “Flamin’ Bobo – Spiced rum, passionfruit and strawberry, topped with ginger beer and flamed!

A great way to try the cocktail menu and save pennies is on a Wednesday evening with all night happy hour. I particularly recommend the Flamin’ Bobo and the Snake Charmer.

Trapeze also offers an American based food menu with a selection of burgers and platters. Check Trapeze out on a Tuesday and you can get 241 on burgers or a burger and a beer for only £10 – bargain. During happy hour, the platters are also only £15!

Fun bar to visit with friends for a night out or a cheeky date night!

An amazing themed bar! I went to a disco yoga class last night and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it! Getting glammed up at a glitter bar beforehand to then party my way through a fun yoga session was a wonderful mid week pick me up. This yoga class was more about fun than fitness- if you are looking for an accurate yoga pose class then maybe stray away...but if you need some lighthearted fun and fitness then party your way to Trapeze. We enjoyed cocktails post workout which were divine...mine was a take on a Pina Colada using coconut cream, lime, rum and pineapple juice all served in a coconut itself! Go to Trapeze and get the frown turned upside down.

The Trapeze bar is a themed bar / club in Shoreditch with a really good interior design (see pictures below). As expected around Shoreditch, the place gets really busy but there is an upstairs area with its own bar that can be privatized for events. This makes the Trapeze bar a perfect spot for birthday parties!
I found the drinks quite expensive but the bar tenders are super fast and you'll get served quickly.
Music wise it's pretty mainstream but still good for a night out.

Very impressed! Cool bar achieving a circus theme – I think they got the décor just right, not too overdone it was cheesy but enough so that the theme ran throughout and was obvious. Came for my best friend’s 21st birthday, was originally going to just be a few of us for cocktails and a bit of food to start the night off before moving on elsewhere to meet the rest of her party – however end up enjoying it so much, we stayed late into the night with the rest of her friends coming to meet us here.

We got there early enough to take advantage of their happy hour food and drinks deals, not sure how large the platters were we conservatively ordered one between 4 of us however it was soon apparent that another would be required. We ordered our 2nd platter however it was taking sometime, about 40 minutes so we enquired as to whether it would be coming soon and was told yes, then a further 20 minutes or so went on and we were then approached by a man who I believe was the manager – he said there had been a mistake and our order had been given to the wrong table, which is why there was the delay, he reassured us that the platter was being prepared now and that we wouldn’t be charged for this. These things happen and the way it was handled was professional with a pleasing outcome so we appreciated this.

By far the best thing about Trapeze bar is the cocktails, if you find yourself here do not deny yourself a taste – and please skip the mojito’s and be adventurous (you can thank me later)! The unanimous favourite amongst us was definitely the Snake Charmer, although I also enjoyed the Big Top Blowback, Rollover Ryan and Pinky Winky. With a happy hour including Saturdays and spanning 3 hours from 5pm – 8pm there’s plenty of time to decide on favourites’ for yourself and be sure to get a 2 for 1 cocktail voucher from their website when you sign up to their mailing list to use when happy hour ends too to prolong the cocktail fuelled party!

The music was good throughout the evening, and the atmosphere really picked up as it got later into the night – before we knew it we were up joining the occupied dance floor next to the bar area. This place gets very lively, even well before the basement opens at 10pm.

My only disappointment was after an evening spent with a photographer about the place taking literally hundreds of photos and liking the Facebook page is that these were never uploaded, I have messaged regarding this but not received a response. It’s a bit annoying as we laid off taking our own pics because it would be overkill on top of those he was taking, but now my friend doesn’t have many photos to look back on.

Great venue, great music, great drinks. My friend had her 30th here so hired out the top level which had a small private bar - handy. Gradually we all moved downstairs which was absolutely buzzing before I eventually poured myself in to a cab home. Good times.

This is a great all in one venue. It has a really fun cocktail list, good food (think american hot dogs, burgers and platters) and really good music. There were DJs playing in the cocktail bar which got everyone up and dancing after dinner and then we headed down to the club in the basement which was really fantastic house music. We had only planned to pop in for food but ended up staying all night. A great party venue!!

super me

I went here to meet friends the night of the England world cup disappointment. we had some cocktails - happy hour and grabbed some food- taste card - so quids in really. we headed to another venue to meet some others (they were showing the game - apparently a big screen downstairs - i could only see the screen upstairs - but we had arrangements), we lost! England- we past by and came back in (so not in a great mood) We loved it, we had been given a 241 drinks voucher, boom nice one- instant cheer up. Cool music - a thursday thing by the look of it. We ended up chatting with the dj's- funk, blues, soul stuff and the person who promoted the night and had a good laugh, made some good connections! it turned into a a great night because of the company, the cocktails helped..hic. ha. But- I was surprised this place hadn't had a review. I was showing to someone to recommend a place to go to watch the next game- or general drinking- shimmying on the dance floor. I'd rate it! its a place that will soon be discovered by more.

*and by the way- they way it is decorated is ike the name- trapeze on the ceiling and funky things the drinks are served in- yup- gonna go back many times this summer for sure!
