Angel Comedy

The consistently excellent Angel Comedy features stand-up from carefully selected open-mic comics and experienced acts testing new stuff or performing solid-gold sets – all for free, seven days a week (with a voluntary donation at the end, of course). The room gets absolutely rammed, so get down there early if you want to grab a seat.

Mondays are improv shows, Tuesday nights feature an hour-long solo show, and Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays include spots from new acts and comics testing new material gig. On Fridays and Saturdays comics perform their slickest sets, all killer no filler. To check the latest line-ups, check 'dates and times'.

If you ever find yourself at a lose end on a Saturday evening… Or, if you want to look like that cool London chap/chapette that knows the best place to go on a date, you’ve found it.

There’s a reason why you always see a queue outside the Camden Head on a saturday night. And that’s because it’s blinkin’ comedy gold! So get there early to avoid disappointment.

There’s usually three acts, and a compere that’ll keep you roaring with laughter all evening.

Plus, it’s free! All they ask for is a contribution if you’ve enjoyed the comedy. And with tears of hilarity all round, I really hope they make a happy dollar from it.

I've only been to this show once but will definitely be back. It's probably the best comedy show I've been to - and it was free!! They do ask for a donation as you leave and I was more than happy to give after having received such a varied but hilarious show! The MC guy is super funny and the acts are well chosen. They also don't go on for ages which is good. Get down early to avoid the long queue!

Friend suggested we do something different and go for a Tuesday’s evening comedy club session. I thought to myself- ‘’Oh what a lovely alternative to usual happy hour abuse in a pub. Why not drink in Comedy club!’’
When we first got there, there was no cue lined up in front of the entrance so we went to a pub and ordered a bottle of wine. But as soon as we ordered, all the people from pub disappeared and formed a line. Oh no! We could have been the first ones there. Oh well, we will know for next time.
I was quite surprised about the number of people who showed up, because I thought no one knows about this place and it was Tuesday. Who does anything on a Tuesday? Clearly everyone knows this place, especially after Timeout Stamp of approval.

All of us eagerly crammed into the ‘comedy room’ upstairs, giddy with anticipation.
Along comes Luke ( I hope that is his name ) , who was warming up the crowd and introducing each act. He was definitely everyone’s favorite and I would definitely go watch his own stand-up comedy show. Now, everyone’s act was great, they kept on repeating that the show is free so we shouldn’t complain. Once is funny, 20 times is a bit much.

Much anticipated John Gordillo was the last act, and he didn’t even make an effort to perform but merely read his jokes and trying them out for his ‘actual shows’.He was very much aware the audience was silent, and at this point of the evening I was ready to leave the boiling room. If it wasn’t for the final act I would happily leave them a generous contribution, but since I felt a bit offended all of us being treated like second class citizens, I left a bit disappointed and sulky.

All in all, yes, it is brilliant there is a place like that, free, great variety of comedians, good location. Comedy wise, it’s a bit of hit or miss, but like they like to remind you- it’s free so don’t complain. Everyone is raving about it so maybe we were there on the wrong night. ‘Till the next time!

Awesome night of free comedy! I went last Saturday to the new (2nd) location and laughed a ton. The place was packed and the energy in the room was awesome. Highly recommend.

If you like comedy, you’ll love this place.

This is a place where comedians come and try their new stuff – to gauge if it’s funny enough to be put in a routine – but you would never have guessed. From big names to up and coming new faces, those people are always so talented you’re guaranteed to laugh out loud every time. I’ve been there a lot and never left disappointed.

The best nights are Fridays and Saturdays, but you’ll have to come early to avoid the queue and even earlier if you want to make sure you’ll be able to grab a seat as it’s first come first served. But it’s all worth it for a good laugh, isn’t it?

Fantastic night! I've never written a review but this was definitely outstanding!

Slightly misleading, it's actually a pay as much as you can afford kind of thing.

That said, I'd happily pay £10-20 for something like that, so it's well worth the 'contribution'.

Went on a sunday, got to see a lot of different acts on stage (some for the first time ever), and had an amazing time. The MC Barry Ferns was brilliant! Next time I'm in London I'll definitely stop by again. Fantastic!

Really a nice evening! : ) I enjoyed and I'll go again in the next days! Thanks a lot for this free opportunity to have fun : )

Properly amazing night. Always packed. Consistently high quality, i always thought this was always the place to go to see good breakthrough acts - but lately some of the the bigger names seem to turn up as well! And free! But be warned, if you aren't early you''ll not get in - they always seem to have to turn some people away.

Angel comedy is a deservedly popular night, it attracts first rate acts and a very friendly crowd. Unsurprisingly it can get very busy, so get there early!

F@#$ing brilliant night, every single time. Great bar, lots of chicks, really great comedians dealing out belly laughs - this isn't a "gig" cos Barry runs a art night.

Went to the Saturday night, luckily I got there early, as they were turning people away. It was excellent. Fantastic energy, great acts, amazing atmosphere. Best comedy night I personally have been to in London. Look out for the plug guy..

An incredible night. A mix of brand new acts and well established stand-ups. Brilliantly hosted. A really fantastic atmosphere.

As well as being a free comedy night, the Angel team is remarkable for their quality of booking, MCing and show running. A gig that stands in stark contrast to many other free shows in London that have more acts than audience members, it is always packed and has a great mixture of familiar faces and brand new talent.

An awesome night that has gone from strength to strength. The inclusivity, ethos and atmosphere championed by it's promoters, hosts and performers have made it the sort of night you need to get there early for if you want to get near the front of the queue.

Best free comedy gig in London, and as a prolific cheapskate I would know.

Last thursday night there was the greatest laugh ! Barry and the performing comedians were excellent ! I'd so recommend this night to anyone wanting a good, very good time !

I'm still flummoxed as to how such a quality comedy night can be in a nice pub, easy to get to, personal chair finding service by host for pregnant ladies, and flipping funny! I feel guilty any Friday night that I don't make it.

A brilliant night every time! I've been lucky enough to get in early and bag a seat up front for several of the varied nights and all of them have been solid gold. Barry Ferns as compere is truly a find and will be doing some form of household word stuff soon or there's no justice in this world. He's far funnier than many of the comedians on tv AND looks like Barry Gibbs love-child...

Fantastic evening. I always enjoy it. I have discovered so many new comedians, as well as being delighted to find old favourites here. Great crowd too. Highly recommended.

I've been to Angel comedy a number of times, both performing and in the audience. The crowds are fantastic. The best comedy I have seen in London, I saw at Angel comedy.

Outstanding. Anyone looking to dip their toe in the London Comedy world need look no further. A joy to attend.

I've performed at Angel Comedy Club a few times and I have to say it's great fun. When the room is rammed, it's one of the best gigs in London and the audience are really up for it. You should definitely go

Angel Comedy is one of my favourites for stand-up nights out. A fantastic atmosphere, always brilliant line-ups, a top MC and it's in a pub for goodness sake, so the beer is literally on tap. Highly recommended.

A cracking night. A commitment to quality that you just don't find among the other free nights and always a lovely atmosphere. Best comedy club in North London.

A truly wonderful evening every single time. Run by some of the most tremendous people in London. You'd be a fool not to go every single night you could.

This place has become my "go to" comedy club over the past couple of years - it's always an awesome night out. They regularly get some of the biggest comedians in the country turning up (seemingly unannounced) to try out new material - unbelievable for a free night.

One of the most reliably entertaining nights in London, comedy or otherwise. There's always a lovely atmosphere from the crowd, and whether you go to the open spots or the big weekend night you're guranteed a lovely night.

Amazing atmosphere! Fridays and Saturdays are the Big Ones, with loads of people being turned away because it's just that popular. But for the true connoisseurs, there's some really interesting things going on through the week: improv on Mondays, and some absolute legends on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I've never felt pressure to put money in the bucket, but I do every time - it's just so worth it! The people who run it put such passion and hard work in, and that comes through on the night. Love it!

Amazing comedy packed into a room In a bustling pub! Line up was great with a real fun energy through the night. Will be back to see how the other nights are.
