Camden Comedy Club

This Camden High Street pub has been hosting comedy shows in its L-shaped upstairs room for yonks, often seven nights a week. So, as it's basically a permanent comedy venue, it's rebranded the first floor as the Camden Comedy Club. To find the laughs, just walk through to the pub to the back and walk up the narrow stairs. On Saturdays it becomes the Hampstead Comedy Club (confusing? Yes.)

Venue name: Camden Comedy Club
Address: Upstairs at the Camden Head

First thing to say is that the Camden Head is a great pub! Really easy to access with reasonnable prices.

The Camden Comedy club takes place in the upstairs area, which is quite a small area really but I guess it participates to creating  this very friendly and welcoming atmosphere.
Prices vary but I definitely recommend the New Material nights, where the donations are up to you.

The idea of those events is that the comedians will come and try there brand new jokes on you, which will then allow them to decide if the joke is worth keeping or not.

You can't really predict what you'll see but it's usually pretty good surprises and it's still a free / cheap show!

Camden Comedy Club, on the top floor of the Camden Head, is a brilliant space with new, fresh, innovative, high quality comedy.

From experience, here's how a Friday evening goes: drinks at home with my housemates, playing our own music – 80's/90's cheesy style – enjoying life, and then... It all goes downhill from there. The excitement building up, we decide to head out to Camden and all agree once we're there that we were having more fun at home. However, I must admit we had a jolly time at the Camden Head! The music was cheesy enough for our taste and drinks were coming free! Okay, the latter might have something to do with the fact that my housemate and I took our Monkey, named Golf Sale, along with us and that he befriended every single person in the bar. It's also one of the only pubs open until 3am in London. All in all, we had as much fun as if we had stayed in which means a lot coming from me!

Great bar for late night drinking in Camden; always seems to be one of the last places open.

I have just returned from what started as a lovely night, ruined by the aggressive and unprofessional security.  Having spent over £100 during the night on drinks for friends, I do not expect to be told to 'f*** off' and pushed around by men far bigger than myself, just for finishing a drink I had paid for five minutes beforehand.  My friends were also shouted at for drinking their drinks purchased only minutes before and the security were very personal and abusive, saying that they 'didn't give a s***' that we had just bought drinks.  Absolutely appalling behaviour, after we gave a lot of money  over the evening and were keen to recommend.  I suggest a) last orders is in good time for people to actually drink the drinks that they paid for and b) they replace the abusive security staff they have employed. It really is unacceptable behaviour and if anyone had filmed on that occasion, the managers would have been very embarrassed that their great pub allows such abusive behaviour from their door staff to ruin the experience so that good customers wish not to return and spread the word. Urgent training is required for door staff to remind them that the people in the pub are not animals, but customers. We were not drunk and being sworn at by apparent employees on the way out is not what the Camden Head should want to be known for.

Great comedy nearly every night. Good selection of drinks, not just your usual yellow fizzy junk. Apple crumble cocktails anyone?!

From a bad experience during the first visit it went to the worst experience in a London bar during the second. Bar staff were slow and rude to our friends on both occasions. I got overcharged during the second one for the drinks my mate already paid for. Discussing this with the bar staff and their "manager" was fruitless. They refused to check the register for the payments or do anything to rectify the situation. Highly disappointing. Will neither visit this place again nor recommend it to anyone I know.
