Since Doctor Brown won the Foster's Edinburgh Comedy Award in 2012, clowning has officially become cool. Here are our picks for 2015's festival.
Four clowning comedy shows to see at the 2015 Edinburgh Festival Fringe
Yep, this is a thing now. Clowning's the new hippest comedy genre
Marny Godden: Flap ’Em on the Gate
Marny Godden’s long been a Fringe favourite as part of oddball sketch troupe The Grandees. But this year she’s going solo with a mix of silly character comedy and absurdist clowning. She’s always been an enchanting performer in The Grandees’s shows, so we can’t wait to see what she comes up with all on her lonesome.
Spencer Jones Presents: The Herbert in Proper Job
Trygve Wakenshaw: Nautilus
Trygve Wakenshaw’s 2014 offering, ‘Kraken’, was our favourite show last year. If you missed it, he’s reviving it at the Underbelly. But the clowning sensation from New Zealand also brings a brand-new show, ‘Nautilus’, to this year’s festival. 90 minutes of physical lunacy, he says is his most ambitious show yet.
