The Monkey Business team – who run gigs in north London – have set up shop in the West End, in the downstairs bar below the L'Ulivo restaurant, every Friday and Saturday night.

Promoter Martin Besserman hosts the shows, with the early show featuring hand-picked newcomers, and the later gigs including a mix of pro comics and promising newer acts. Plus there's live jazz during the breaks.

3 people listening of the most uncomfortable, unintelligent and unfunny shows I have ever watched. If I could give no stars I would.

Two of the five acts were absolutely fantastic and genuinely funny. But the performances either side where totally awful; but the worst was the headline act...Lewis Schaffer whose performance, actions and demeanour marred the whole night.

I've never seen a comic bomb before but I've also never seen an egotistical middle aged American male "comic" diva have a tantrum before either.

This unfunny and aggressive "man" told jokes about racism, being a bigot and child kidnap...none of which were funny and then he started insulting the audience when he didn't get any laughs. The basest of comedy, well basest performance as it certainly was not funny!

The MC; Martin, should have pulled this idiot off the stage. In fact he should never have hired this small minded unfunny "man".

I say "man" because he confronted my wife on the way to the toilet and asked if she'd ever been on which she replied "no because I get paid for something I'm good act" which got more laughs than his entire "act" or meltdown or whatever it was!

The MC/owner Martin obviously had an eye for comedy but I wonder if his vision is starting to blur...

Great show! We were milling around the west end and took a chance on the flyer.,.. we weren't disappointed. Two of the acts were TV regulars that even I recognised (I don't watch much telly). The other four on the bill we really funny too. I will be back next time I'm in town!

Talk about doing it properly! Martin Besserman's Monkey Business club takes me right back to live comedy as it used to know, when it was fun! And the line ups are superb - you'll regularly see the top names in comedy together with new and emerging acts. If you love live comedy then Monkey Business is your spiritual home!
