Drinkers and diners are both happy at this brick and timber 1930s boozer. The former get a sterling selection of cask and craft ales, plus cocktails and an acceptable wine list. The latter get a menu that changes daily, depending on the pop-up kitchen – it's worth noting that Burger Bear often have residence here. There’s plenty of seating: at large wooden tables next to the central bar, in the back garden and in the front yard facing Nunhead Green. You'll also find an array of entertainment here, including DJs, folk nights and a comedy club. And the name? A nunnery once occuped this site; the rebellious Mother Superior was murdered during the Reformation and her head stuck on a pikestaff on the green.

This is one of the nicest pubs in London, and is the kind of place you don’t mind passing over your hard earned cash to. Cosy and inviting decor, fairy light lit fireplaces, big cosy armchairs and lovely friendly staff make you feel right at home, you can tell a lot of thought has gone into making it a contemporary boozer while keeping the traditional vibe. They also have an amazing range of spirits, ales and wine, and a residency held by Burger Bear equates to a great evening of delicious booze and grub. I highly recommend going for the pub quiz on a Thursday, the overexcited and slightly eccentric quiz master is hilariously endearing, plus what’s lovely to see is the whole pub really gets into taking part, giving the place a beautifully collective and fun atmosphere. It’s sure to put a smile on even the grumpiest of faces.

Just a proper boozer, with great staff. I always have fun in there. The food is always changing because they trawl the street food scene for pop ups. One of those places that cool because it doesn't try to be cool.

Love this place, great atmosphere , friendly staff and lovely food , sunday lunch is yummm

This pub is the best pub ever!! Amazing beer and food! great people behind the bar quiz nights, discos and music open mic night the lot a great place to go with friends or family deffo worth a trip. Amazing selection of Ales craft beer.

Great staff, quirky & fun atmosphere...constantly surprising me! (in a good way!)

Best pub! Great outside space and loads of stuff going on all the time. Love the staff!

Great pub with really decent beer, interesting ever-evolving street food take over offer & sweet staff!

I've never been but this place looks awesome! Just kidding!! It IS AWESOME! Go there! And don't trust the guy who runs it if he tells you otherwise!

This place is like my second home: always warm and welcoming, with delicious pop ups in the kitchen, awesomely friendly staff, and Ludo the Pub Dog. What more could you want?

Love the Old Nun's head! Nice vibe, and great DJs on the weekend. Interesting beer selection and surprisingly good and decently priced wine list for a pub. Love the rotating pop up restaurants, makes a nice change from pub food.

I’m becoming more and more enamoured with Nunhead not least because of the great selection of quality pubs popping up like the Ivy House, The Beer Shop, and Old Nun’s Head.  The quiz on a Monday is light hearted and fun, particularly enjoy the special last round where you get to relive 90s gameshow: Play your Cards Right.  It’s a great balance of relaxed midweek drinking vibes and ramps up to a lively pub on the weekend.

tuff you need: fire and sofa area, good changeable menus as they have pop up outfits coming in on different nights of the week, good beer if you like that sort of thing and a great function room upstairs for very cheap hire. They also now have djs playing records on Fridays and Saturdays so it gets a bit livelier downstairs and often defends into dancing.

Its kid friendly in the day, if you have to carry kids around with you.

The staff are on the whole really friendly and helpful. The owners (who I've dealt with to book the function room a few times) are down to earth young family which makes it all the nicer to spend your money there!

Great little pub hidden in a residential area with very helpful staff and a nice vibe. Six of us booked a table for lunch as Burger Bear do burgers on a Saturday. There was a real mix of people in the pub including groups of parents and children and it was not too busy. The beer selection is okay but I was expecting a bit more choice in terms of craft beers. I got a Grizzly burger which was great aside from the fact that it was a little overdone but the best bit was the smoked bacon and handmade bun!

Great selection of beer, good music and cheeky staff. Could do with a better soundsystem tho!

Superb Boozer! Cosy, lovely staff, good choice of craft beer and food is interesting with top streetfood vendors on rotation! Oh My Dog hotdogs are delicious!!

Hosting the excellent Burger Bear (who is using meat from the local butcher's Flock & Herd) & an amazing pub quiz every Thursday. Rotates the street kitchen monthly & shows rugby & football. Friendly staff, great atmosphere, good beer selection, small garden. Overall, flawless pub!

The biggest and best selection of cask ale in the area, regular comedy nights, DJs and an amazing range of pop-up kitchens. This is what a local pub should be like.

I love this pub. I don't think I like another pub more. Staff are lovely. Beer and cider both great. Nice wine. Everyone really cares about what they're doing. It's the best pub, definitely, in the world.

Wonderful place, charming staff and banging burgers too. Good ale if it's your chosen tipple.

The best pub in South-East London - whether its Monday/Tuesday burgers with guest foodies Burger Bear, or a quiet pint at the weekend, the place is charming week-in, week-out. Friendly staff (particularly Head Honcho Nick) and great atmosphere, the Old Nun's Head has a thriving crowd of regulars who are always keen to welcome newcomers. Less pretentious than many around it, this is a great pub for those who like beer. Or having a nice time!

This is a great big pub with lots of appeal. I'd call it one of those Sunday pubs, best for chilling out with some papers and a pint, or waiting for the cosy four-seater cubby-hole to become free and settling down with some slightly hungover mates. In the winter, scoring the big sofa in front of the open fire is an absolute must.

The food is all over the place, as different guest pop-ups man the kitchen on different days of the week – you'll want to check their site to see what's on. I can confirm the Burger Bear burgers are bang on the money, however!  The 1-out-of-5 food hygiene rating is a bit off-putting... although they say it happened during a change in management and does not reflect the current state of affairs.

Forgot to rate it. 4 stars for the beer and atmosphere, 2 (at best) for the food recently.

A really nice, warm hearted pub in Nunhead. The food's pretty good, especially the Thai food and they have a decent selection of ales. Happy it's my local
