covent garden comedy club press 2013

Now in its thirteenth year, this top-notch long-established club isn't actually in Covent Garden anymore, but instead under the arches of Charing Cross. You can see circuit stalwarts and rising comedy stars here, every Saturday night, and some Fridays too. See 'dates and times' for each line-up.

What a great place to host a comedy gig. The comedians themselves were brilliant, but in terms of a venue, this was great too. The whole space is really well set out to see the stage and allow a lot of people in the audience, yet still feel intimate.

When we arrived, staff greeted us and took us to our seats, which was very nice and the location is of course close to so many great restaurants and bars for pre and post wining and dining. The drinks were really well priced for such a central location and loads of loos, so no long wait during the interval.

The only downside? Well the seats at certain times were really shoved together so for some of the taller folk, they had trouble squeezing in. So maybe a little bit more thought needed to go into the way the rows were laid out. But you know, no one complained and we all moved ourselves to accommodate others - it was a good spirited audience.

And, unlike, some of the larger more commercial comedy gigs, this didn't have all that fake, over the tops 'bigging up' of acts, whooping and cheering forced upon us and a terrible DJ pumping tunes in the break. This was much more like a proper gig - how stand up comedy should be.
