The Royal Ballet's much-loved 'Romeo & Juliet' –Kenneth MacMillan's 1966 choreography – which the company took, triumphantly, to the O2 Arena in 2011, is back in the proscenium arch of the Opera House. Prokofiev's music is familiarly stirring, the costumes are rich in earthy tones and there's all sorts of swaggering and swashbuckling from the rival families, but it's the intimate drama between the central couple that makes this show soar, or not. Safe bets Tamara Rojo and Carlos Acosta perform on opening night, while Melissa Hamilton (partnering Rupert Pennefather) and Sergei Polunin (with Lauren Cuthbertson) will make their debuts during the season.
