The original Great Titchfield Street branch of Kaffeine takes its name seriously. Inspired by coffee culture in Australia and New Zealand, this hip hangout is constantly changing its beans. A recent guest espresso was a single origin from Costa Rica’s Tarrazú region – it went down a treat, so keep an eye out for more. There’s also a bench in a sun trap outside.

Retro coffee bar Shoreditch Grind on the Old Street roundabout is a landmark in itself. It churns out coffee (fresh from its Grind HQ roastery around the corner) all day then Instagrammable small plates and cocktails – including a mean espresso martini – into the evening. Its house espresso blend, available to buy in cool pink tins, contains Costa Rican Alto San Juan beans.

This is more science lab than coffee shop – no surprise that they have their own roastery. And Workshop’s top baristas love bringing home the beans from trips to Costa Rica (look out for El Rodeo in its coffee bars). With four central London locations, you’re never far from the signature blend, but the stripped-back Marylebone café serves up lots of urban design inspiration too.
