After building up a glowing reputation amongst dance music fans for their Butlins-based weekenders, this year's Bloc really is the coup de grace. A move to a new London location close to the Olympic site, a 30-metre geodesic dome and a veritable galaxy of big names make this a true UK alternative to Sonar. While his Snoopness, rave-survivors Orbital, pioneer Gary Numan and Richie Hawtin might be there to draw in the punters, there's a phenomenal cast of supporting acts and spinners of new heroes like Hudson Mohawke, Clark and Scuba alongside techno legends such as Jeff Mills, Carl Craig and Ricardo Villalobos. Let's hope it matches Sonar for its friendly, cosmopolitan and pleasantly un-mashed punters.
