I’m not a sporty person. It takes all sorts of motivation to get me into the gym, keep me interested. Hence why I am a bit of a gym snob, thinking that if I have to torture myself exercising, I should at least do it in a nice environment. I thought I’d been in good gyms, but visiting BLOK changed my definition of good gym.BLOK is epitome of modern and cool, modern to the bone, Malin+Goetz products in changing rooms, smoothie bar and most of all, amazing teachers. BLOK is based on classes- anything from boxing, yoga, high intensity…. There is something for everyone. I would travel all the way to Clapton for their classes, but now they opened a studio in Shoreditch and my life is complete!!

Blok is hands down my favourite gym in London. It has it's downfalls - Price per class (£13-£17 depending on branch), Towels costing £1, and small changing rooms but they make up for it with their range and speciality of classes. They honestly have the best classes in London, my favourites being Calisthenics (a pull up class), BlokFlex (30 mins of HIIT and 30mins of stretching) and BoxCon (a HIIT style boxing class). If I had the money I would be going to this gym all the time and would accept the downfalls just because of the classes.

Using the ClassPass, been to BLOK a few times for pilates and a boxing class, and absolutely love it. The space is great, set in an industrial brick building that actually feels quite warm and inviting once inside. There’s a small café (which also serves as reception) when you first walk in, which serves coffees, teas and little snacks. Had the salmon pot after a workout one day when I was desperately hungry and it was fairly tasty. I’ve only got two downsides to BLOK – sometimes in the pilates class there’s a bit of a mildew smell, but I’ve only noticed it once. It was so awful I feel a bit sick however. 2) The price. I can afford it on this special class pass deal I’ve got going, but alas once that ends, so is my relationship with this place. Which is a shame because the classes are great, the facility is great and it’s right near my house. Shame it isn’t more affordable!

I absolutely love BLOK. It has a real boutique feel with a smoothie bar (the Blokbuster is dangerously yummy), Bamford Organic toiletries and totally grammable bare brick walls, concrete ceilings and iron pillars - it’s in an old tram depot. Hannah Almond who runs the yoga studio teaches my favourite yoga class of all time, but sadly stopped teaching on Saturdays or you’d find us there every week. The Blok Fit class I tried was a bit of a disappointment - music so quiet you could barely hear it, and a circuits based workout that just wasn’t fun. I’m not going to let it put me off.
