Skyler is a Wandsworth salon with an unusual premise – the hair specialists don’t use scissors. Instead, this place is all about colour. Walking into reception through giant glass doors, there’s a full display of hair product eye candy: it’s a Wonka factory for colour junkies. Oh, and there’s a blimmin’ great slide there, too. Why? Who knows. But does it really matter?
A silky-haired staff member accompanies me through to a mirrored area and we talk through my grand ideas. Not someone to downplay fashion statements, I opt for a rainbow base layer and a blue streak in my fringe. (It’s worth noting that Skyler also has more natural options on offer, including the ever-trendy balayage).
All in all, the process takes a couple of hours. Pros: you don’t get neck ache because the washing area has fully reclinable chairs; the massage was heavenly; and between trips to the basin, I got to chill in an area complete with magazines, teas, colouring books and free-to-turn sweet dispensers (which I took full advantage of). In fact, waiting was almost as enjoyable as discovering my new do. And I say almost, because I got to go home looking like a bag of Skittles. Winner.
