Until 2007 when Spa London opened in Bethnal Green, there was no such thing as an affordable day spa in in the capital. A second branch has now opened at Swiss Cottage Leisure centre with a long, good-value treatment menu. Still, for a complete spa day package you're best sticking to this East End original where facilities include steam rooms, Turkish hamam and plunge pools.Treatments range from an Escape in the City Salt Scrub (a 25-minute cleansing that should remove all trace of London grime), to the spa's signature Gym & Tonic in which your body is cleansed, body brushed and exfoliated, before being treated to an aromatherapy massage and warm marine mask. Indulgence without the price-tag.

I have been to this place twice. The first time a group of us went for my cousin's birthday (this was about 4 years ago). The second time my brother's and I treated my mum to help celebrate her birthday. We went to spa London about a year ago. The place is a lovely venue who a variety of steam rooms. Unfortunately the relaxation room ran out of water twice during our 3 hour visit. I had asked at reception for water and the lady was not very helpful, I was told that she would not be able to leave the desk and there was no one else around to stock up on water. I waited about 45 minutes, by which point I felt quite dehydrated , obviously, due to coming out of hot steam rooms! I went to the ladies and they were completely out of toilet roll. I went back to reception yet once again was told that she cannot leave reception to get water or roll. Eventually both were stoked up, by which my family and I were very thirsty as were many other people who had been asking fir water. I think that these guys really need to ensure that water is well and truly stocked up considering the type of venue they are, water is extremely important!

Bit disappointing, even for a budget spa. Things have changed at Spa Experienxe Bethnal Green since it was reviewed by Time Out. Management has changed and so has the general efficiency of the place. The atmosphere is not particularly welcoming, staff in general seem a bit despondent perhaps explained by lack of spa assistants to do the cleaning and laundry, meaning they have to do it between treatments/reception work. The place itself is getting tired, peeling paintwork, cleanliness is a bit on the scrappy side. Just getting through to the spa caused immense frustration. I called 12 times throughout one day and was not answered by anything other than a voice message. My sister and I had booked treatments, both of which ran to over 40 minutes late, meaning we had little time to enjoy the spa itself. The therapist I saw told me she “had had enough” and was going to resign within 20 seconds of my stepping into the treatment room - not a great start to an already late appointment. She was actually pretty nice, but it was clear that she and many staff are demoralised with the place. Which of course affects the atmosphere.

Other issues where dirty, marked towels (of which you are only permitted one) and an aroma steam room that was so overheated just pushing the door open burned my hand.. it wasn’t safe to go in, the steam choked you before you could set foot inside. Overall, a shame. Management is a lot to sort out if they want to make the best of this spa.

I went to this place with a hen party and they were great... From what I can tell, the organisation part was easy going and they catered really nicely for our group. The facilities are modest, I was a bit disappointed with the lack of jacuzzi but the steam rooms, plunge pool, relaxation area, sauna and 'quiet' room were lovely.

I also had a salt scrub (the rest of the group opted for the more traditional facial or neck and shoulder massage which they only had good things to say about!). I definitely got the better deal here... I was salted from top to toe, front and back and moisturised so well, I didn't even recognise I was touching myself. It was relaxing, exfoliating and exactly what I needed to prepare me for a night out with the girls :)

Just don't forget to bring your fake tan with you to top up... There won't be much left once you've had one of these treatments!

Definitely head over to this spa, cheaper than your usual trip but a nice relaxing couple of hours to chill out

This isn't the type of spa you dream about when you go on a mini break with your boyfriend or mum but for its cheap as chips price tag and location it will do just fine. There's no pool but plenty to do over two hours including a plunge pool, steam room, sauna and somewhere simply to relax whilst sipping a mint tea. They have a good selection of treatments on offer of which I am yet to try but look wallet friendly.

They lost my booking and offered no apology. I wasted an evening and was highly disappointed. Will not use again.
