What do you want from a salon? A simple cut and blow dry, no fuss, no frills – and potentially very little care? Or a more holistic experience which takes care of your creative wellbeing as well as your curls? Well, fans of the latter approach should see out Salako.
The bright, sleek space off Baker Street is not only an excellent place to get your hair cut (manned by talented cutters, big-name colourists and friendly assistant staff), it's also a destination for talks, workshops and pop-up events. It follows the ethos of owner Jimo Salako – a former session stylist who moonlighted as a photographer and magazine editor – and suggests that if you're into art and culture, you'll want your hair cut in an individual, creative way.
He still works on big campaigns for high street labels, and faithful clients (such as Erin O'Connor) have stuck with him from his early catwalk and editorial days. A scissor-session with the man himself will cost you £90 for women or £75 for men, while a cut with a senior stylist starts at a £75 for women and £50 for men, and colour is from £150 for a full head of highlights.
