This isn’t the only hotel in London to provide butlers, but there can’t be many that offer ‘a secured gun cabinet room’ for the hunting season. This is traditional British hospitality for those who love 23-carat gold leaf trimmings and stern portraits in the halls, but all mod cons in their room, down to flatscreens in the en suite.
Too lazy to polish your own shoes? The butlers are trained in shoe care by the expert cobblers at John Lobb. Both of the bars – gentleman’s club cosy Coburg and cruiseship deco Connaught – and the Hélène Darroze restaurant are very impressive. In the new wing, which doubled the number of guestrooms, there’s a swanky spa and 60sq m swimming pool.
