Time Out Says

This fin-de-siècle period piece was founded by descendants of Captain Cook in two grand Victorian townhouses. The lobby and staircase are hung with old paintings, and the bedrooms all have fantastic 19th-century carved oak beds, sumptuous drapes and shelves of old books.

The suites are spectacular: the Tudor Room has a huge stone-faced fireplace and a minstrels’ gallery, while tragedy queens should plump for the Judy Garland room with her old bed (and replica ruby slippers). Bistrot 190 provides a casually elegant setting for great breakfasts, while the warm, wood-panelled 190 bar is a charming and sophisticated setting for cocktails.

The Gore London – Starhotels Collezione says
The Gore is a quintessentially British boutique hotel since 1892. From antique carved beds to original artworks, each of the six floors is a treasure trove of period details and hand-picked pieces. Discover the luxury of yesteryear, immersed in the same atmosphere that has attracted celebrities, famous artists and aristocrats over the years, including Judy Garland, André Simon, Sir Malcolm Sargent, Tony Hancock, Lord Miles and Dame Nellie Melba.

The Gore is home to the iconic Bar 190 and 190 Queens Gate, a modern British restaurant.
