Saxophonist, playwright and poet Shepp is best known for his work on John Coltrane's avant garde call-to-arms 'Ascension', alongside highly politicised LPs for Impulse that mixed spoken word, blues, funk, swing and free jazz. Here though he duets tenderly with renowned German pianist Kuhn (who worked with Ornette Coleman among others), on heartfelt pieces from their album 'Wo!Man'. Superb MOBO-winning post-bop quartet Empirical support.
