Pittsburgh pianist Jamal, aka Fritz Jones, is best known for providing the sparse melodic template for Miles Davis (those brittle, jerky, modal improvisations with a big kick on the fourth beat) but you can also trace Hancock, Evans and Jarrett from his style.
