The 163 young players of the UK’s largest band bring their precocious talent and refreshing enthusiasm to the Proms. They begin without a conductor in the world premiere of ‘Re-greening’, Tansy Davies’s celebration of spring. It has been written as a complement to Mahler’s Symphony No 9, the composer’s final completed symphony, a profound and poignant farewell, which follows and is conducted by Sir Mark Elder.
