The Beethoven Intercollegiate Piano Competition offers AQCF Members the opportunity to spot top performers of the future. It is also a competition between the leading Music College, as to which can produce the best Beethoven interpreter (each candidate has already been awarded an internal Beethoven Prize by their respective institution).

At 2pm: Candidates grouped into threes, each play a short obligatory Bagatelle followed by a Beethoven piano sonata of their choice.

By 5.30pm: The Jury, comprising Professor Alan Walker, Dr Murray McLachlan and Professor Malcolm Troup, withdraw to consider their verdict

6pm: Presentation of Prizes and refreshments served.

(Note: The winner plays a lunchtime concert at St James's Piccadilly at 1.10pm. Apart from the cash awards, the First Prize carries with it the prestigious 'Beethoven Medal' of the Worshipful Company of Musicians which the Company's Master, Alderman Dr.Andrew Parmley, will be on hand to present. There is also an Audience Prize.)
