This venerable riverside pub is one of the oldest in the area, dating back to 1684. A famed jazz spot since the 1950s, The Bull's Head has attracted an array of greats from Ronnie Scott to Humphrey Lyttelton. It underwent a refurbishment of sound and lighting a few years ago, leaving the rechristened Yamaha Jazz Room in better shape than ever. These days the Bull's Head specialises in mainstream British jazz and swing: regular guests include ace veteran pianist Stan Tracey and sax maestro Peter King, with Mondays given over to blues. But it's not just about toe-tapping tunes and quality ales – there's also an acclaimed Thai bistro which is open from 6pm to midnight Tuesday to Saturday.

River side views and musical legends - 'pub' feels like a bit of an undersell! I just can't recommend this place more. Go on the first Thursday of the month and hear Alan Price from the Animals sing a vast repetoire of classics, including well known  such as songs he's written 'house of the rising sun'.. pretty spectacular! To top it all off they have lots of tasty thai food to help feed your over excited soul!

I’ve driven past this pub a million times on my way to get somewhere else but one Sunday, walking through Barnes, I finally decided to go in for a drink. One turned into 3.

The Bulls Head is an expansive, welcoming and comfortable pub set right along the river in Barnes. It's very well known for its live Jazz but I'm not really into Jazz. The music venue is a great one though and has a wide and changing programme.

The pub has a large island bar in the centre serving a wide range of craft beers and spirits. It’s a really nice relaxed vibe where you can chill out with a pint and read the Sunday papers, or enjoy a meal in the dining room at the back.

But forget about food and drinks for a minute- the decor is probably my favourite thing about this pub- a clever mix of old and new, different textures and colours and interesting features make every space fun to look at.

I think I’m going to walk through Barnes more often, and maybe even listen to some Jazz...
