Trumpeter Claude Deppa was part of the second wave of South African jazz immigrants in the late '70s and, since then, he's worked with the likes of Dudu Puwana, Art Blakey, Archie Shepp and Fela Kuti. He appears here with his melodically charged six-piece that features singer Joyce Moholoagae and trombonist Jonathan Elmer. Support comes from Darius 'son of Dave' Brubeck, who's been based in Durban, South Africa since 1983, here performing his own uplifting brand of African-tinged originals.
