Time Out says

A new opera from rising star Iain Bell evokes the tragedy of the Battle of the Somme

Welsh National Opera's new production is a lyrical WWW1 story from acclaimed young British composer Iain Bell. David Antrobus and Emma Jenkins have turned Welsh poet David Jones’s epic poem of the same name into the libretto for an opera that's saturated in myth and rich history. The story begins with Private John Ball and his fellow soldiers' camaraderie as they set sail for France, then shifts in tone to evoke the tragedy of the Battle of the Somme in enigmatic style.
