In 1987 the Southbank Centre was given a stunning set of Javanese percussion instruments (dominated by the tuned bronze gongs you'll recognise if you've ever been to Bali) by the Indonesian government. And they've made bally good use of them over the years with their own community orchestra, the Southbank Gamelan Players. Tonight is a celebration of 25 years of the gamelan's bright, shimmering sound at the venue, with a collaborative performance between Javanese musicians and dancers from Institut Seni Indonesia and Southbank Gamelan Players, followed by a new dance drama, 'Sendratari'.
