Mercury-nominated, Brad Mehldau-ish pianist Downes headlines this month's Jazz in the Round with his acoustic quintet, complete with cello and bass clarinet from Lucy Railton and James Allsopp respectively. This is a great chance to catch this young star making good on all that early promise, as he leads his group through lush new music from their new album, 'Light from Old Stars'. Drummer Boyd's band open the evening, while Kofi – a superb Berklee-trained alto/baritone specialist, formerly of Us3, Courtney Pine's Jazz Warriors and Branford Marsalis's group – fills the solo spot.
