Female composers are the theme of this year’s early music festival, while the performers include plenty of female singers including sopranos Hana Blazikova (joining Bach Collegium Japan) in Bach cantatas; Maria Cristina Kiehr singing Italian Baroque arias (accompanied by Concerto Soave); Carolyn Sampson paying homage to the ‘French Nightingale’ Marie Fell (with choir Ex Cathedra); and Julia Doyle and Grace Davidson as soloists in Couperin’s intimate ‘Leçons des Ténèbres’.
