En Travesti Ensemble (soprano Anne Rebecca Laurent, mezzo CN Lester, cellist Alex Eichenberger and harpsichordist Philip Lawton) presents the latest version of its evolving 'Love: Sacred and Profane' programme for castrati singers, cross-dressed women and any variations thereof. Here the troupe performs for the first time Handel's original Italian duet versions of what later became some of the most beautiful choruses in his great oratorio 'Messiah', as well as Elisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre's cantata 'Susanne'. Plus, chamber duets by Hasse, found among manuscripts at the British Library. (The ensemble's aim is to explore gender representation, identity and ambiguity in opera, song and oratorio.)
