By day they sell mouse kebabs to passing Malawian traffic, and in between cars they play gospel music on guitars and percussion ingeniously fashioned from scrap. Eight friends from one of the poorest countries in the world, the Malawi Mouse Boys came to global attention when Tinariwen producer Ian Brennan made field recordings of their music. Led by the gorgeous vocal interplay of 22-year-old Zondiwe Kachingwe and 27 year-old Nelson Muligo, their album 'He is No 1' was released last year and got even the most cynical reviewers gushing about raw musical power, creative drive and the human spirit.
