Mostly Other People Do The Killing

Second of two nights for this anarchic US quartet MOPDTK, who take an irreverent approach to combining a whole swathe of jazz influences – that can be as silly as they are surreal – shifting from outlandish improv to a hearty boogaloo to blazing bop through to swampy funk and soul without the slightest pause. Mixing it up with killer sax work from young alto tyro Jon Irabagon, scorching trumpet work from Peter Evans plus hyper-flexible grooves from bassist Moppa Elliot and drummer Kevin Shea, this is a band that puts the f-word back into jazz, and yes, they are fun too.
