* Here Comes the Twentieth Century: Baroness Shirley Williams presents a lecture on the tumultuous events of the twentieth century (QEH, 10.30am)

* Alex Ross, the author of 'The Rest Is Noise', charts the emergence of radical new musical languages in the early twentieth century, taking Strauss's 'Salome' as a point of departure. (QEH, 12 noon)

* The Birth of the Modern: Discover how the art and design world of Vienna before 1914 ushered in a new era. (Level 5 Function Room at RFH, 1.30pm & 4.30pm)

* Breaking the Tyranny: Helen Carr and Sam Riviere explore Ezra Pound's experimental poetry. (Level 4 Blue Bar at RFH, 1.30pm and 4.30pm)
