Over three concerts musicologist/composer Gerard McBurney, ensemble Cuarteto Casals and pianist Alexander Melnikov probe its secrets, playing five string quartets, the Piano Quintet and a complete cycle of the Preludes and Fugues – all interspersed with Gerard McBurney reading Shostakovich’s letters.
