Time Out says

It might be a bit odd to book tickets for a show when you have no idea who's playing, but Sofar Sounds, a 'music discovery' and events company, are adamant that you'll love it as much as their already amassed loyal followers. We can tell you that their line-ups aren't all heartfelt singer-songwriters, and that some of the UK's most exciting and in-demand young bands are booked for upcoming Sofar Events. But there's only one way to find out exactly who's playing on their upcoming tour of the nation's living rooms, and that's to apply for your free ticket at SofarSounds.com from November 1.

Sofar sounds is super cool and a must for any music lover! This is especially one to check out if you get fed up of the massive arenas where the atmosphere of a small intimate gig can often be lost. Rules state to respect the musicians and no talking during the acts, booking beforehand is needed for a secret location that is only revealed the day before and it costs from about £12 each which I think is great value. A lot of venues can be peoples homes and some are great finds which are amazing venues that I wouldn’t have found out about otherwise. I discovered some great upcoming artists at Sofar sounds and this is what live music is all about so book a ticket and see for yourself what this is all about.

I've been to two Sofar sounds evenings so far, and absolutely loved them both. You go to their website, select the shows you are interested in based on the date and the area they are in, and then you get an email letting you know whether you have been invited to buy tickets or not. It's worth signing up to a few dates / locations at once, because you definitely won't get invited to all of them, as it's very popular. If you decide you can go on the date you have been invited, you can buy up to 3 tickets for £10 each, and then the day before the show you will be sent a text message with the address. The location could be someone's house, an independent music venue, or any other space that someone has donated. There will be 3 acts performing but you don't find out who they are until you get there. You can BYO drinks, but you're asked to respect the performers by arriving on time and staying until the end, and giving your full attention to the performers rather than talking/texting/etc. Both occasions I have been, the performers have been fantastic, and I've looked them all up on Spotify and social media afterwards and still really enjoy listening to their music! It's an incredible experience, and one not to be missed if you enjoy live music.
