English National Opera presents Rossini's comic masterpiece – a prequel to 'The Marriage of Figaro', it remains as tuneful, ironic and funny as ever. Set in an elegant comic-opera vision of eighteenth-century Seville, Jonathan Miller's Tiepolo-inspired staging brilliantly intercuts the traditions of the Italian commedia dell'arte and the Whitehall farce.

(Sung in English; running time: two hours and 50 minutes.)

I really enjoyed this performance! The Barber of Sevilla is quite an entertaining opera and rather funny.

It was a bit usual to hear it performed in English - especially when it comes to the well know pieces like 'Figaro'. However, as I couldn't see the surtitles from where I was sitting, this was actually quite a good thing, as I could easily follow the plot.

The voices and the acting of the singers were excellent and I very much liked the stage design too.
