If you're after a mixture of underground sounds and a lounge space where you can actually hear what your mates are saying, you can't do much better than 'The Lex'. With an unashamedly American retro feel running through the decor (wooden floor, plump Chesterfield sofas and mismatched chairs, swagged red curtains) and the bar, which boasts a selection of over 40 whiskies and numerous US bottled specialty beers, it's a good place to both hear live music of an alternative variety (upstairs) and hang out (street level) until late. Further diversity is offered by regular club nights, a weekly pub quiz and swing dance classes.

This is my absolute go to place for late night dancing and music!

Blessed with the perfect gig venue upstairs it turns into a club night most weekend evenings and never fails to get me dancing.

The drinks are not the cheapest and it's an average of £5 to enter upstairs but you get guaranteed dancing until 4am!

A little tip normally if you get there by 11.30 you can get in free upstairs - visit their Facebook page.

If anyone asks me what the music is it's pretty dependant on what night you go but with a Dj playing music free downstairs too you should be able to find something to wiggle too.

So next time you are thinking where can I go dancing tonight I'd recommend you check out the lexington

They also do slushy cocktails woo!

I started to go to Lexington for these French concerts they used to organize monthly. They've stopped doing it but I have continued going to the Lexington. This cool bar between Saint Pancras and Angel is a well decorated place where you can have good food or just grab a drink before going upstairs for a concert. You actually have a discount on the food with your concert ticket. It is in this tiny concert place that I saw the best gig in London. It was a Sunday, I had the usual Sunday blues. I saw Patrice, which literally made everybody dance and sing all night long. I have been to many concerts since then at the Lexington, I love the eclecticism of styles, from heavy metal to pop music. It is also nice to stay after the concert as they usually have a DJ set list.

Unfortunately stuck between Angel and Kings Cross, it's not a bar that would catch your eye along a bus route. However the whisky on offer was a delightful surprise, along with decent beer, and happy diners. Can't ask for more from a music venue for some pre-gig drinks.

One of the best live rooms in London! Possibly the best at this capacity, nice an intimate with great sight lines, sound and a sick pub downstairs

The selection of U.S. whiskey is excellent, as is the tiny space upstairs for seeing a band. Don't go: if you're allergic to hipsters or Americans. Do go: if you like dimly lit pubs and sweaty music venues.

It's a place I keep coming back to for one reason or other, that's because this place is a little hub of cool. Known for it's gigs, some gems have performed here...I most recently went to see Luke Haines here, which was an absolute treat. Cool pub with a good atmosphere. Worth checking out their club nights, which are always a good giggle. The food is really lovely, with some really good eats on the menu. A pub with a sense of humor and cares about it's customers.

I've been here a few times and the vibe is always fun, relaxed and defined by an atmosphere which supports live music. This time was a Sunday and it was much quieter but still had a band playing in the corner and a steady stream of people going upstairs to where more live bands play. The roasts (I was pleased to discover) were served up with either a free Mimosa cocktail or Bloody Mary (lovely). I ordered a roast beef and my friend had chicken why we're both gorgeous. Lots of different and beautiful vegetables and lovely meat. Was £16 and would go back!

Lexington has a good range of craft and American beers on tap. American beers reflect its eclectic American decor - it's like a saloon with gun racks on the wall, velvet drapes and chandeliers. The venue also hosts popular pub quizzes and hosts a range of live music gigs, mostly indie rock.

Just a 5 minute walk from Angel Tube, you'll find this pub/music venue hybrid... and it's awesome. The Lexington pulls in some great bands in the intimate venue upstairs. It's slightly reminiscent of student union bars, but in the best possible way. On Friday and Saturday nights they play fun Northern Soul music downstairs in the bar where it gets more rammed than a tin of sardines.

Really good range of gigs here. The pub quiz on a Monday is a toughie but a fun night out.
