Tumbledown old boozer with a roof 'garden' (read: smoking/breathing space) dedicated to giving young, new bands a stage on which to strut their (still developing) stuff. It boasts plenty of familiar, now highly successful names on its list of performing alumni, including Ladyhawke, The XX, Paloma Faith and The Cribs, not to mention the likes of Franz Ferdinand, who treated excited and sweaty, sardined-in fans to a preview of their upcoming third album here in June 2008. A handy staggering distance from Old Street, it's a seven-day-a-week destination venue for all sounds fresh and (at least potentially) happening.

I've attended several events at The Macbeth. Girl Power, the 'What's My Name' Rihanna night, Pop Punk night, American Frat Party night, and my all time favourite Cat Face. I've actually lost count of how many times I've drawn whiskers on my face with eyeliner to gain the cheaper entrance, at least 5. I've made so many memories here, that it's become my go to, for a night out with a big crowd of friends. It's never a dull evening and it always ends in a massive hangover the next day that was totally worth it. I recall one night involving drink being poured from the bottle into the mouths of everyone at the bar who wanted it. Of course this was a one off but it shows you how crazy it can get!

Fantastic venue that has great bands and a sizzling atmosphere! Mel and Mark are the loveliest people.

I was lucky enough to see Lucy Rose do a tiny Christmas show here and although I would give the show itself a 5 star review and the bar staff too, the shape of the pub just didn't much lend itself to gigs, as it was long and narrow so, perhaps just because it was sold out, but nobody could see after a few rows and there was no room for manoeuvre AT ALL, I spent the whole gig being asked if I was waiting for the bar because the only place I could possibly stand was rammed up against the side of the serving area. Everybody was in the same boat, and it didn't overkill the quality of live music in such an intimate venue, but it was pretty impossible. Maybe would have helped if people weren't wearing winter coats too!

Came here for a friends gig the other night, cool decor and drinks priced well considering other London prices. Will definitely come again soon

Always a good night out here, bar staff were friendly and helpful. Good for a couple of drinks or a mental night out.

Love the Macbeth, always so much fun and such a great friendly atmosphere by workers and punters.

Why bother to comment ... well because I want to save you from having a great music night turned to sh*t by greedy arrogant bar staff. My advice is to go and enjoy the many fun bars around Hoxton and if you want to experience good  music then drop in when you've had enough to drink. The music was great. The bar staff were unBelievable ... greedy and arrogant. Totally wrecked a good night out :(

After paying to get in your presented with rude staff a sign that reads 'draught beer is f**king expensive, buy a bottle' the cheapest is £5 for a 330ml IPA and all the taps are off. No thanks.

Quality night. Rarely a sausage fest. Recommend it to all!!

Had a great night up to the point where a particular member of Staff decided to insult me when I asked for water. I'm pretty confused as Well. A shame as the evening was fantastic up to that point. Poor staff!
