Straightahead bop from pianist John Critchinson with guitarist Dave Cliff and bassist Alec Dankworth on the late set. Soulful, earthy vocal-led jazz from singer Jackson in the early set. With a powerful yet subtle voice Jackson has a knack of penning Stevie Wonder-esque originals that avoid the usual clichés. Helping maintain these lofty standards in Jackson's band is the superb Empirical altoist Facey.
