Walthamstow Garden Party

Programmed by the Barbican and Create London in partnership with Waltham Forest Council, the Walthamstow Garden Party is a free two-day festival in E17 that combines a cracking music line-up with plenty of family fun: theatre, dancing, comedy, circus, art activities with the William Morris Gallery and a designers’ market.

This year you can catch global sounds from Sierra Leone's psychedelic Janka Nabay, Ghanaian DJ Katapila and his collection of acid house and techno, New Dehli band The Ska Vengers and their skittish ska-punk, plus jazzy funk from local collective The Heliocentrics.

Well worth venturing up the Victoria line for.

Judging by the size of the green square on Google maps - we were not expecting this festival to be in as large of a space as it actually is! The entrance is small with crafty stands and drum performances, but the further you go the area opens up to huge stages, food trucks and greenery. It was amazing to see all of the community programs in the area, the artist studios in the middle of the park, and galleries. We did some indigo dying, had fresh crab on fries, and watched performances on the lawn. It really made us fall in love with this neighborhood, eventho the amount of children/prams can be intimidating at times.

Amazing free festival for all ages - much bigger than you'd imagine and 10 mins from the tube. Music, food, arts (great craft tent) ... Walthamstow's one of the coolest corners of London these days ...

This was awesome last year and will no doubt be again this year. It's free to get in and once full is one in one out so turn up early! Good food and beer options, very family friendly and great music and theatre too.

Walthamstow, a multicultural village with the beating heart of London.
