Kendrick Lamar kicked off the Compton comeback, followed by Schoolboy Q, and now comes YG to confirm that the power in hip hop has swung back to the west coast. His debut 'My Krazy Life' modernizes the G-funk sound for the trap era, with fat bassy synths powering a sparse and menacing sound. YG (alias Keenon Jackson) won't dazzle you verbally as Kendrick or Q can – he's more of a raspy Yeezy mumbler – but his verses are surprisingly deft once you get past ubiquitous single 'My Nigga'.
