A Bible-based bodybuilding competition is coming to London

UPDATE: This event has been postponed.

Sure, on the surface, there arent a whole lot of things in common between Christianity and bodybuilding.

One teaches you to be selfless and love thy neighbour. The other demands you spend half your life crafting hyper-sculpted pecs.

But those eccentric folks at Bompas & Parr, creators of Willy Wonka-esque, multi-sensory entertainment experiences, have seen past these surface disparities and dug a little deeper (or, at least, a little weirder). And on Thursday March 29 they’ll be bringing Tonk As God to Stoke Newington’s Old Church: a one-night fusion of theology and muscle, celebrating the pursuit of human physical perfection throughout the ages.

Using iconic religious imagery as a stepping-off point, the competing athletes will embody all your Bible faves (that’s Adam, Eve, Moses and the gang), flexing to be crowned the godliest bod in the room.

And if that all sounds a little, well, crass, then don’t worry: there’s also a panel discussing the context of the event to offset all the sweat and sawdust.

That’s one way to start the Easter weekend...

Tickets for Tonk As God are priced at £15 and available here.
