The Superloop is the gift that keeps on giving. A new speedy bus service launches in southeast London this weekend, and it will be free to use for the first seven days.
TfL has announced that the new SL11 route will begin service on Saturday January 24. It’s a limited-stop express that will zoom passengers between Abbey Wood and North Greenwich via Thamesmead, offering access to Lizzie line and DLR stations, as well as other Superloop connections, along the way.
The new fast route replaces the 472 bus during the daytime only. It will run at a higher frequency than the 472 and will take a more direct route through Woolwich town centre. It will run every six minutes during the day on Monday to Saturday between 7am and 9pm, and every 10 to 12 minutes during other times, except early Sunday mornings when it will be every 15 minutes. During the night the N472 will run every half hour from 12.15am until 4.45am.
To celebrate the launch, customers won’t be charged for riding the SL11 for a whole week. Passengers will still have to touch in with an Oyster or contactless card, but no money will be taken.
The arrival of the SL11 will support London Mayor Sadiq Khan’s plans to create thousands of new homes and jobs in the currently poorly connected Thamesmead and the wider Docklands area.
Sadiq Khan, said: ‘I’m delighted to launch the latest Superloop, SL11, a new express bus route connecting communities from North Greenwich to Abbey Wood via Thamesmead and Woolwich.
He added: ‘Replacing the 472 with this faster, more direct service will help to support early regeneration plans in Thamesmead and boost transport links in a historically under-served part of London.’
