Batten down the hatches, Storm Dudley is coming this way with 90mph winds

Okay, they may not be that high in the capital…

Thought winter was finally on the way out? Think again. There’s not one but two major storms hitting the country this week, with warnings from the Met Office of 90mph winds in some areas and possible damage to trees and buildings, plus outages for amenities and mobile networks.

First up is Storm Dudley. Storm Dudley will arrive tomorrow, travelling west across the country. Although London will be on the very edge of its affected area, you know you’re in bother when they decide to give weather events names. Be prepared for high winds, rain, general unpleasantness. Maybe don’t arrange any outdoor stuff until the weekend.

Speaking of which… following hot on the heels of old Dudley is the brilliantly names Storm Eunice (we assume that major weather events are named alphabetically but that beyond that forecasters are given a free creative hand with nomenclature).

Eunice will roll in from the Atlantic on Friday and will batter the north of England and Scotland, so capital residents should remain relatively unscathed. Still, you know, wrap up warm and dry and whatnot.

Get weather updates on Dudley and Eunice from the Met Office (and soundtrack the destruction with this apocalyptic thumper from the Jesus Lizard) and wait for spring…

There’s a big price hike on bus and tube fares also on the horizon.
