As a kid, if you ever managed to persuade your parents to take you and your friends to Go Ape for your birthday, let’s face it, you were probably pretty popular in the playground.
Swinging from rope bridges, zooming along zipwires and trekking across treetop walkways? Yeah, it doesn’t get much better than that, whatever your age. The adventure playground company currently owns 36 sites across the UK, and is planning to build a new high ropes course in southeast London.
The new Go Ape site will be constructed in a woodland area on the north-western side of Grade II-listed Danson Park, next to an existing playground. Plans for the new adventure site include three different rope courses and a shipping container which will be used as a storage unit. An existing nearby building, currently used as a changing room, will be transformed into a reception, storeroom, staffroom and space for groups to gather.
Locals have pushed back against the plans. More than 490 objections were submitted to the Bexley Council planning portal and a petition titled ‘Stop Go Ape in Danson Park’ received more than 1,300 signatures online.
Did you see that east London is getting a free lido this summer?
Plus: this pretty south London borough has been named the friendliest place to live in the UK.
