Kendrick Lamar is headlining Reading Festival

Reading Festival may have been slowly moving away from its traditional rock roots for a few years now, but the most exciting act in this morning’s 2018 lineup announcement was still one man: Kendrick Lamar, who’ll be headlining the Main Stage on Saturday.

The only rapper to play top billing at the event in the past decade has been Eminem. Twice.

Kendrick is in the middle of a massive sellout UK tour and his announcement feels like definite progress for an event that’s often criticised for being stuck in the same repeated headliner cycles.

Still a rock purist? Don’t worry, Kings of Leon and Fall Out Boy have been announced as the other headliners, alongside a genuinely diverse support bill including Wolf Alice, Sigrid, rising stars Brockhampton and J Hus.

Who said you couldn’t teach an old dog new tricks?
