Living in London might sometimes feel like being in a movie, although whether it’s a Richard Curtis romcom or a Danny Boyle horror can depend on the day. But soon the capital is about to get even more cinematic – literally – as plans have been revealed to build a huge filmmaking neighbourhood in the north of the city. And the first images of what it will look like have just been released.
Back in March 2025, the blockbuster plans to build the brand-new Camden Film Quarter were first announced. Now this ’hood dedicated to the silver screen is a step closer to coming to fruition, as its developer, Yoo Capital, has submitted planning permission to start building.
Yoo Capital (the same folk behind west London’s Olympia) has submitted plans to Camden Council to build what is essentially going to be the UK’s answer to Hollywood. In the £1 billion proposal, the real-estate investment firm wants to transform under-used industrial land in Kentish Town into a purpose-built district for film production, with homes, green spaces and education facilities.
At the moment, the plan wants to provide around 500 new homes (50 percent of which will be affordable), 11 state of the art film and television studios, new creative workspaces, public parks, and education facilities in partnership with the National Film and Television School (NFTS) and the London Screen Academy (LSA).
The film studios, designed by Camden based architects SPPARC and to be managed and operated by Oxygen Studios, will introduce a ‘pioneering’ vertical studio model that will allow production stages to stack efficiently, maximising the limited urban space.
Lloyd Lee, co-founder and managing partner of Yoo Capital, said: ‘Camden Film Quarter represents a bold new chapter for London’s creative industries - a place where storytelling, innovation, and community come together. As the screen sector evolves, London needs infrastructure that matches its creative ambition.
‘Located in the heart of the city, Camden Film Quarter reimagines what a modern studio can be - an open, connected neighbourhood built for collaboration, education, and opportunity. By uniting world-class studios, affordable homes, and public spaces, we’re creating a place that will inspire the next generation and keep London at the forefront of the global film and television economy.’
One of London’s most confusing attractions is getting easier to navigate.
