Normally, if you wanted to indulge in a little whale watching, you’d have to head to The Maldives, Mexico or at least, y’know, Scotland.

However, if you’re in Gravesend right now, you might be able to spot one of the big guys from your window.

Yep, today we’ve got an IRL ‘Free Willy’ situation on our hands, after sightings of a beluga whale in the Thames Estuary near Gravesend in Kent.

Twitter user @iPterodroma has posted some slightly shaky footage of the mighty beast, while other locals have also been chipping in with their sightings too.

However, while it’s a rather interesting novelty spotting a massive sea creature where there’s normally only washed-up beer bottles and bobbing prophylactics, let’s also make sure our new visitor stays safe and sound.

Heads up, whale experts: you might want to hop on to a train to Gravesend right about now.
