London’s most beloved sorceress-cum-childcare specialist is returning to our screens this Christmas in ‘Mary Poppins Returns’ – after a 54-year hiatus. Are we excited? Yes, we are. Emily Blunt looks like perfect casting for the witchy nanny, and judging by this new teaser trailer, Disney is delivering on the story’s picture-book London setting too. The Banks family’s house has a whopping great ship’s mast coming out the roof. Imagine what the zoo’s going to look like.
Among the kite-flying and scene-setting, there’s a glimpse of the new Mr Banks, Ben Whishaw (with extravagantly bushy moustache), and the three Banks children (Pixie Davies, Nathanael Saleh and Joel Dawson). No sign in the trailer of returning heroes Angela Lansbury and Dick ‘Cor blimey!’ Van Dyke or, for that matter, Meryl Streep as Mrs Banks’s eccentric and sure-to-be-scene-stealing cousin Topsy. But they’re definitely in it. Expialidocious!
