Bloc Bar

Nightlife Camden Town
3 out of 5 stars

After the closure of long-standing Camden LGBT venue The Black Cap – and other venue closures around London – it's encouraging to find that new venues are actually still opening. Bloc Bar comes from the team behind popular east London gay bar East Bloc and looks like it'll take a similar approach. It's a two-floored, industrial-feel space and will be open seven days from August, with a varied programme of DJ nights, burlesque, cabaret (in homage to The Black Cap) and one-off parties Music will be varied, but expect a fair bit of pop, R&B, commercial house and club anthems. It'll likely attract a predominantly gay crowd, but it's very much open to all to enjoy.

East bloc, interestingly arty venue. Not a place I would normally visit bit it proved to be slightly entertaining with the family fierce, drag, camp and strange is all I can say. Drinks were decently priced and made it easier to get into the swing of things.bring Camden it attracts a very arty crowd. Boys who like boys who like girls. Music was old school classics with a smattering of the latest floor filers. Overall a great night was had. It will never be the black cap but it gets a 2 out of 5 for trying

Worst bar I've ever been to. Having to pay to get in to find the place basically empty!!

Love it. Bloc Bar is reminiscent of all that was good about gay bars in the year 2000 but with the added hurrah of the new era of alternative Cabaret. The drinks are ludicrously reasonable and the cabaret is cool, kids. And with the sad closure of The Black Cap, this is a joy to behold in all it's boisterous glory! Needless to say, my girlfriend and I were desperately hungover the next day...
