London Wonderground

London Wonderground

This summer-long pop-up cabaret festival offers an embarrassment of riches. International performers include sensational chanteuses Meow Meow, who blends tenderness, satire and seat-of-the-pants showmanship, and the circus spectacular Limbo. Come July, the neighbouring Udderbelly – the purple inflatable cow crammed with comedy – heads north to Edinburgh and the Wonderground expands to become a whole Coney Island-themed playground environment of sideshows, bandstands, food stalls, roving performers and barnyard oddities. ‘It’ll be like entering a new world,’ promises Ed Bartlam, co-director of Underbelly, who are creating the Wonderground with the Southbank Centre. We think he might be right.

If you’re looking for a place to gather a group of your favourite chums for a catch-up after work or over the weekend, then you should give London Wonderground serious consideration.

This annual pop-up has a certain circus/wild-west theme to it. There are the usual bars and food stalls that accompanies many pop-ups. But it’s the atmosphere which really stands out. it’s wide open space which is resplendent with vibrant colors that provides an atmospheric vibe.

It’s well known the London Wonderground is a bastion of raucous and heart-thumping cabaret/burlesque shows such as Barbu. But you don’t have to buy a ticket to the shows to enjoy the Wonderground. Simply find yourself a seat and kick-back with your favourite tipple as you soak in the fun vibes with your mates on a warm summer’s day

Tip: It’s pretty as hell as the sun starts to set and you can climb to the rooftop of the The Grand Saloon Bar to see the sunset in all it’s glory.

If you’re looking for an activity, next door is the “Ride Emporium” where you can showcase your skills. It’s brilliantly located too on London’s buzzing Southbank under the London Eye so the area is always buzzing with activity.

So, next time you’re looking for a place to chill and have a fun time, The London Wonderground is right up there with one of my favourite places. Hurry though: the Wonderground is only a pop-up and ends 25 Sept 2016.

Such a cool place, this is a funfair for adults and kids alike. A huge variety of shows and performances are on offer here from comedy greats to circus acts and toddler discos!

You don't even need to take in a show to get a feel for the place though. This is the most bustling place on the South Bank. From carousels and gigantic swing rides to street feast style food and cocktail huts, there is a bit of everything here.

The atmosphere is fantastic. It really feels like Coney Island has landed in Central London! Perfect for a day (or night) out with friends, family or significant others!

Wonderground is a magical place! A bar on a Merry-go-round, loads of delicious street food trucks, plenty of seats incuding beach chairs: this is the perfect spot for an impromptu meet up with friends. One of the best things about it is the the entrance alley, fairy-lights hanging over your head from tree to tree: truly beautiful. BUT, if this has already convinced you, you might faint when you read that: a 60-metre high Star Flyer! It won't bring out your pretty side, as you can see on the photo, but man, the fun you're going to have flying over London! #TOTastemaker

LIMBO is a must see event in summertime.  I've been twice so far, and would happily go again.  I've also sent numerous first dates there, and never heard a bad word after!

Essentially you end up with the best acrobats in the world, performing so close, it's like they're in your living room.  The music is incredible too! If they run it again in 2015, GO GO GO!!!
